Beds are a bit hard but the breakfast is yummy and includes pancakes, eggs, ham, cheese, fruits, fresh juice and coffee or tee.
1 night per room including breakfast is 30 USD
Hostal Gabeal – Right on the beach and probably the best location in town. Our room ws big however it was very loud due to the number of surfers partying in the rooms next door. USD 40 not including breakfast
Galapagos, Santa Cruz Island
Hostal Elizabeth – Room was ok however fan was pretty useless so it did get quite hot. USD 40 per night no breakfast included
Galapagos Best Home Stay – Nice place but quite a distance from the main area and as there are cheaper places in a better location then maybe not worthwhile. USD 50 per night does not include breakfast
Galapagos, San Cristobal Island
Hostal San Francisco – Room was ok, and in a good location on the main road. USD 25 per night no breakfast included

Hostal Nucapacha – Small room with no window, felt a bit like a prison cell. USD 25 per night breakfast included
Swiss Point Hotel – Nice place to relax after our overnight border crossing. Big room with TV and bathroom. Good location outside of the town. USD 50 per night no breakfast included
Rio Hotels – Bad location as it was too far to the beach and to the main street. Also the owner/manager attitude was a bit strange as he tried to take advantage of every situation to try and get more money out of us. Room was ok however there are other places that are cheaper and in a much better location. USD 40 per night breakfast included however the breakfast was very poor.
Mohican Palace Hotel – The hotel was fairly new but it was quite nice and in a great location on the beach, it also had a pool. The room was comfortable however we needed to ask every day to get it cleaned. USD 40 per night breakfast not included
Hostal El Centurion – rooms where tiny and with small bed, not so comfortable for two people. 15 minutes from the city centre – USD 35 per night included breakfast
Pucllana Loudge – nice place with a small outside sitting area in Miraflores around 15 minutes to walk to the tourist boulevard 55USD per night including breakfast
Hostel Tambo Colorado – nice and spacious rooms; would recommend to stay in Paracas as its closer to the sea and has more options for tourists 25USD per night inclusive breakfast
Wachuma B&B – Taken only for one night so we could see the sunrise at the Machu Picchu. The room was nice and clean and very close to the train station. 45 USD per nigh including breakfast
Hostal Qorkilla – In the historical centre of the Cusco but 110 steps up a hill. The place is ok, rooms are clean but small and its very loud from 05:30am on. Not a place for long sleeper.

Hotel Atariki – with a price of 80 USD one of the cheaper places no stay on the island. The hotel is not nice, the garden is not looked after and the rooms are small and come with cockroaches. Not recommended!
Martin Fierro B & B – nice guesthouse in the middle of the town just next to the main road with all the shops and restaurants. Havier is a fantastic host and helps wherever possible. The place is cosy and we you get a little apartment with kitchen if you stay on the ground floor, or bunk beds on the 1st floor. Both is OK and the breakfast is good.
Per night 40-50 USD
Bellas Artes Apart – An entire apartment just for us in a cool area with lots of bars and restaurants. Plazza del Armes and other tourist attractions are close. The apartment did cost the same as most of the guest houses and provided much more space and comfort.
Price per night is 60 USD
Casa Kultour – a funky blue house right in the middle of the hill. Be prepared to do a bit an exercise by climbing steps. Our room was OK but the bed was very uncomfortable. The house has high ceilings and due to the wooden floor and thin walls its quite noisy. The owner of the place, Oliver is very knowledgable and helpful and he speaks 4 different languages.
Room with shared bath and breakfast costs around 40 USD.
Hostel Margouya Patagonia is located in an old colonial house of Puerto Varas, built by a German settler about 100 years ago. It has gigantic high ceilings, all wooden, and a heated fireplace. Kitchen and living room are comfortable and offer enough space. Double room with bunk bed per night is 45 USD.
Hotel Petit Ancud – From the outside you would not think that it is a nice place to stay but the rooms are OK and the big plus is the owner of the place Marcel. He books trips and helps with onward journeys and he was a great help. Room including breakfast is 45 USD.
Chiloe – Castro
Palafito Sur – The Palafito house (stilt house) is fully made of wood and directly over the sea with a fantastic view. The private rooms are very small and have just space for a bed and the bathroom is separate. The living room has in the middle a stove and it gives it a flair of a skiing hut. The wooden walls are very thin and I could even hear the dog breathing, who was standing outside of our house right next to our room. Costs per night for a double inclusive bath and breakfast – 60 USD
Marilu’s bed and breakfast – The guesthouse is in a central and safe area in Providencia. Marilu is friendly, speaks 3 different language and tries to help with tours and sightseeing tips. I was not so keen on the guesthouse itself as our room had no window (we had a window but with a concrete wall behind it and so it does not count) and it did smell of moth spray. The room including private bath and breakfast costs 60 USD per night.
Arraial do Cabo
Pousada Caravela – Just around the corner of the 40 km long Praia Grande. Rooms are very small but nice. The family is very friendly and although they only speak Portuguese we kind of understood each other. The breakfast is very good with bread, yoghurt, eggs and a selection of cakes. Price per night is 50 USD for the room.
Rio De Janeiro – Ipanema
Ipanema Bed and Breakfast – Cozy place to stay just a few metres away from the Ipanema beach. The owner, Felipe speaks perfect English and is very helpful with any inquiry. The 2nd floor of the villa has 2 guest rooms, a kitchen and a big dining/living room. The breakfast is absolutely yammy. Price per night inclusive breakfast is around 65 USD, which is a great deal for Rio this close to the beach in a very nice and safe area
Ko Samui – Chaweng Beach
DVC Hotel – not the place you book when you come to Samui for a short holiday, but ideal as a backpacker accommodation. Just off the main road with all the Resorts, a seedy looking place with a mouldy smell. Per night 500 baht including warm water, air con, balcony, fridge and a loo with a flush. Can’t expect more for your money.
Ko Tao Tropicana Resort in the south of the island on Chaluk Bankao Beach; basic huts (manual toilet flush) with a small terrace and direct beach access; the island is relaxed and ideal for doing a dive course
Hut per night with fan costs 500 baht
To Amo Cafe – You get what you pay for and for 250 baht you can’t expect warm water or that you have the bed for yourself. The cafe itself is a charming place and offers a variety of cafe and home baked cakes.
Bed & Terrace Guesthouse – Clean rooms, friendly staff and a great location (quiet but still easily walkable to centre and the main sights) make this a good choice for Chiang Mai. Free coffee and a nice lobby to chill out. Average price for one night for a double is 450 baht.
Manee Guesthouse – Clean place to stay for a few nights. Not sure how comfortable the beds are. For sure ours was solid like a rock. Price includes coffee/tea and toast in the morning and its good value for 350 baht a night.
Nakorn Ping – Not the prettiest looking building but still fairly nice rooms at a ok price. The real main point is the location which is close enough to Koa San road to walk however far enough away that your not being hassled every few metres to buy, hire or see anything. Price per night is 460 baht.
